Already into day 3 of 2009, and I’m having fun just hanging out with the family. The boys decided to go north to the snow Monday and came back on the 1st. My daughter and I rang in the new year catching up on missed episodes of 24. Since we were overseas so long, we missed a lot of series and found Netflix while we were in France. We caught up on a few and are now able to watch them in real time on tv. But there are still others like 24 that we are still catching up on.
It was quiet around here for a few days, but my daughter and I enjoyed hanging out and doing girl stuff. We went to an outlet mall one day – those are dangerous places! We did get in our exercise for the day. That’s one thing I haven’t done in a while. It sure is easy to get out of the habit and get lazy. I get up each day and think I need to start running again, but my body says, Oh, let’s just wait. I know I need to, and I have set a date. The kids go back to school Monday, and it will be the best day to make my new year’s day. I also need to start eating better. The holidays have brought lots and lots of chocolate my way, and anyone who knows me well knows I cannot say No to chocolate. But I do say No to fruits and vegetables very easily. I think I could live on bread, pasta, and chocolate.
Well, that will all stop Monday. I am going to post my resolutions on my bathroom mirror where I will see them every morning and night. But for now, I have a couple more days to enjoy and relax with my family before real life begins once again.
Well, the cold weather left as fast as it came. It’s close to 70 degrees today. I guess we won’t see a white Christmas here (which is just jolly with me :)! But the rest of the house would probably love to see some of the white stuff. I think the boys may make their way west towards the mountains before the week’s end to play. If there is shopping or other indoor activities in the vacinity, the girls may go as well. Otherwise, we’ll stay here, and I’m sure we’ll find something to do.
The shopping is finished, the stockings are hung, the goodies are ready for Santa and his reindeer, and the kids are outside playing off the excitement and sugar rush. My youngest told me at breakfast that he just wants to skip today. I’m enjoying the day, sitting and talking and enjoying the calmness…before the storm of tomorrow.
We plan to go on a drive about in an hour to look at the Christmas lights around town. Then we’ll head over to a neighbor’s Christmas Eve get-together for a little holiday cheer and caroling. Afterwards, I hope that the kids can get to sleep at a decent time so that Santa can arrive and do his thing, then return home to get to bed at a decent hour as well.
I love holidays because it’s mostly about family. Even when there are presents involved (which are some of my favorite things :), I am still spending time with loved ones. I have to admit, however, I could do without the c-c-c-c-cold! I woke up to SNOW today…in southern coastal Virginia…in November!
I love my family, of course. But really, my kids are some of my favorite things. When we were in Orlando two weeks ago, we bought them t-shirts with “Thing 1,” “Thing 2,” and “Thing 3” on them. The kids love them. They decided to wear them to school today – all three of them. As I was looking out at the snow and they were leaving for school this morning, my youngest was standing in the driveway waiting for his bus in his red Thing 3 t-shirt and a pair of shorts. Seriously. I yelled out at him that he needed a jacket and maybe some long pants, but he insisted he was fine. I don’t remember dropping him on his head as a baby. I wonder if he just wanted to be sure everyone saw his shirt.
I also love chocolate (duh!). And I don’t need anything too fancy. I got to taste some of the most wonderful chocolate when we lived in Paris, but I am happy with Reese’s and M&M’s. I do have to admit, though, that the best hot chocolate in the world is in Paris at Angelina Restaurant. And right now would be a great time to have some of that hot stuff. But I guess I’m gonna have to settle for Swiss Miss for now. If you’re ever in Paris, it’s on Rue de Rivoli near the Louvre. Please bring a mug back for me!
So, these are a few of my favorite things. I could go on and on and on. But all that talk about chocolate and the cold is pulling me to the kitchen.
